This is so very upsetting and sad. Alexander, if you could have only asked for help. You were worth it. We all are. Depression is a disease of the brain and it can be fought, with prescriptions and therapy. I have beaten a few episodes thanks to able and caring professionals. People should not think they have to suffer alone. Be OUT about your mental health – there is nothing to be ashamed of. Depression is NOT weakness, it is illness.
P.S. I am not convinced that associating this with gay-for-pay is fair or correct. I cannot say that it is not involved in individual cases, but generalizing is possibly dangerous.

Was he straight? Personally I prefer to not label adult performers in gay films as gay as unless they make it explicitly clear that they are. That being said, I do not believe that the ones calling themselves straight, are straight in the traditional sense of the word; otherwise it’s extremely unlikely that they would be capable of doing the job that they do for extended periods. I believe the ones who are traditionally straight, are the plethora of the short-lived “solo-only” features you can find on many sites.
I do believe that the recent shifts in what is considered “straight” is positive movement towards a world where labels are immaterial, and all paths are embraced as equally “human”; and I think many of the “straight” adult performers in gay features would fall under this “new straightness”. Where the label is a suggestive guide, based on it’s current definition, but not a restrictive ruleset that cannot expand or grow.
I think things boil down to the fact that being gay or having gay sex (on and/or off camera, regardless of motive) is still stigmatized. And that stigma encourages people who do work in the industry, even award-winning performers to “identify” as straight despite that fact.
I think if you combine that with a grave misunderstanding of human sexuality and attraction by the masses–specifically, the separation/mutual independence between romantic and sexual attraction–and by extension, the lack of “endorsed labels” to support/validate the entire spectrum of possibilities, you end up with results like these:
Where people may have mixed feelings about themselves based on a misunderstanding of what the human experience is “supposed to be”; Fighting an internal conflict of “do I follow my heart” or “do I follow expectation”. Many choose the path of least resistance; conformity and expectation… at the expense of self-actualization, inner-peace, and freedom. I believe that the very lack of feeling “like themselves” gets the better of them–as it eventually does for anyone–, and they decide it would be better to not exist, than to be forced to exist as someone other than themselves… or they decide to exist true to themselves, but at the cost of the general immunity from public and private scrutiny that so many of us take for granted every single day–which also would eat away at one’s happiness given enough time.
I believe we as a species haven’t truly progressed beyond the existing status quo. The “progress” we’ve made, while appreciated, are only superficial corrections/counterbalances to behaviors and actions, not changes of “hearts and minds.”
This man’s death as well as others like his, I believe, are evidence to that fact.
