Good question although I’m not sure if, in general, you can make porn more exciting, more viscerally stimulating by merely focusing on the specific kind of action or just the mechanics. Similar to the meaning behind the phrase “familiarity breeds contempt”, the more you’re exposed to (or make) porn the less likely you are going to be exhilarated by it. Don’t get me wrong, speaking as a true porn/sex addict, it never gets old – but in one sense, it also kinda does – if you know what I mean? As with anything there are limitations but I think context could be greatly improved. In other words, it’s not just the “what” but the “how” a scene unfolds – it’s not just the raw piss/suck/fuck in the men’s room but “how” the piss/suck/fuck transpires in the men’s room. Does that make sense?

I think one of the key aspects is casting. There are many guys now, gay, bi, straight, whatever, who simply don’t get into their scenes. They don’t seem to enjoy their scene partners, go through the motions, and get the job done. If they look and act bored, so are the viewers.
I also think some new directors with different concepts and ideas might help. It seems we have the same gaggle of directors working. Only once in a great while do new ones come along, and they’re usually ex-performers. The industry needs some new blood to enliven the product.

A lot of people also complain about the sets ( bed, sofa, shower, floor, etc ) and how they’re tired of the same thing. However, there’s only so many places you can fuck. I tend to get tired of it sometimes, just because I’ve been looking at so much of it.
One complaint I do have is the emphasis on ‘money shot’. “Straight porn seems more real, raw and rough”. THIS statement encapsulates my feelings about how straight porn differs in style to gay porn. The sex seems more intense and less scripted. I really appreciate the gonzo-style.
One genre I think the gay porn industry is lagging behind on is the gang bang genre. I think gay porn is just fine, if it’s boring it’s probably because you’re watching too much. There is more variety in gay porn now than ever, more diversity, and more heat/chemistry as well. Of course a lot of it won’t appeal to you individually, but there is a lot of great stuff being made every day. This blog just wanted to make something out of nothing, IMHO.

The way I see it, there will always be a group of disatisfied viewers no matter what happens in gay porn. I agree with most of the aforementioned statements. I want the actors to convey some sort of emotion or intensity appropriate for the scene. For example, two “straight guys” vacantly fucking is fucking boring. For me it’s a combination of the following problems:
1) Many of the actors are not gay and, for the love of God, it really does show in how they have sex. They do not have sex with the abandon of model like the legendary Jeff Palmer. It is as if these so called “str8″ or gay-for-pay models are always, to a certain extent, removed or learning aspects of how to truly be free with their bodies and sexuality. In my opinion, the continual promotion of these hustlers who ciphon off money from gay male consumers is a travesty and a reflection of the lingering internalized homophobia of some gay men who long to “have” straight or “straight-acting” men.
2) With the exception of a few marginal porn studios that pay their models-of-color less money, and with a few exceptions, mainstream gay porn almost always presents the same kinds of white, or white-skinned (like the biracial Matthew Rush) models. These models are usually shaved and they have sex in entirely predictable positions. If there is a darker-skinned black or an Asian then for the most part (but not always) they are relegated to the sidelines or they play a specific role (like that of the savage black fuck-beast). And rarely do you see just as many models-of-color in a white owned studio’s presentations. Moreover, the bodies of these mostly white or light-skinned models come in two narrow types: hyper-muscled or super-thin with little in between. I am white and I am open to the beauty of all men. Why does mainstream gay porn seem so stuck in the dark ages of sexual racism (see h t t p : / / sexual racism sux . com for an explanation of this term). 4) I know the owner and editor of this blog doesn’t wish anyone to bring this up but the muddled commitment to safe sex in gay porn is a major turn off for me. It may be hot for some people to see unprotected sex but for me it is a sign that the HIV protection efforts will never get through to some people. It’s not all about having a fantasy when REAL PEOPLE are involved.
5) The shots are not wide angle enough. I like to see the whole person and not just isolated close-ups.
6) The DVDs are too expensive, especially when a good mainstream film is only $9.99. And, in a recession, the price of online access is too high if you consider that the owners of these sites would STILL make a killing every month if they charged $14.99 a month or even $9.99–greedy, cookie-cutter promoting owners turn me off.
So that’s how I see it.
