What I found interesting-and suspect-about Leo’s comments, and I have read them before elsewhere, is that for someone who claims to have wanted to attend medical school and has a B.S., he seems ill-informed about sexually transmitted diseases. I’m a doctor in L.A. and I have seen my fair share of porn performers and to date only one was NOT HIV+ and of the rest not one knew their true status. Not one. My first question to any of these guys would be, have you been vaccinated for pneumonia? Tetanus? Hepatitis A & B? Checked for anal cancer? Had a standard flu shot? Been tested for TB, pulmonary and meningeal? The more partners you have the greater the risk, period. Even if you have been treated with antibiotics for a sexual transmitted illness like gonorrhea, the more times you have taken antibiotics the less effective they become. And there are treatment reisistant forms of HIV. We are seeing these more and more in Eastern Europe and the Far East and because the world is so small and travel so accessible, soon this will spread all over the globe. There is no cure yet, guys. People still die of HIV everyday and we are seeing a rapid increase in HIV infections among young gay men ages 18-25. Act intelligently.

So again, yes the amount of partners would factor into infection rates; but routine maintenance and check ups are required for most productions are methods utilized more than the average person would.

For one, the real Leo says in the interview that he was a fireman for 6 mos in NYC (actually I’m suspicious of that, too), and had gone to college and was going to apply to med school. There is a very emotionally charged movie called “And the band played on” [it’s an old movie] situated around the start of the AIDS epidemic and there is a story line where the doctors are searching for “patient zero”. You really should see that movie it explains in a simple but effective way how the disease spreads amongst the population. Just one person down the chain needs to be infected and sooner or later you’ll also be infected.

I’m familiar with And the Band Played On… and the book seem to blame an Flight attendant for spreading the disease. It did focus on “Patient Zero” too much… and for some people it Implicated him has the sole person who created the epidemic. There are studies that implicate that AIDS had occurred earlier in the century, and it didn’t become an epidemic until, what was thought, a combination of factors occurred; the sexual revolution and the lack of prophylactics by the gay community at that time. Anyone could have contracted it who didn’t practice using condoms.
For anyone who really is interested in porn I find it highly unlikely they would run for office or something like that. What I’m trying to say that porn doesn’t make you a drug addict or a whore; even though you might encounter some of those types in it. Stereotypes are not gospel, and there are always exceptions to those points made.
I know of couples who perform on their own sites, and they do pretty well themselves without resorting to sleeping with countless partners or extreme sexual acts. They are not looking to become big time public personalities or political figures. Or work for soulless corporations whose interest is not in the well being of its employees.
Please remember, the average production company requires all their performer to get routine check-ups and STI testing; which is more than the average American does. I’m not saying doing this protects you, or even allows you to live in some bubble away from diseases; but rather allows you to be a better informed individual about your options and be capable of protecting yourself and your sexual partners of your choosing.
By the way, a lot of actors in films have advanced degrees from serious colleges and had worked in the professional sector before entering porn; so your point about, ‘A sane, well-balanced, educated person does NOT become a porn performer’ doesn’t make sense when there are performers with an educational background to begin with and were never destitute before entering it.
Although, there ARE some that have this background it isn’t ALL. And everyone here seems to implicate ALL porn performers are the same.

Papi, sometimes it’s better to remain silent. It’s a relief to read Robert’s intelligent comments on this site. Did you even bother to read the garbage that this David guy wrote to Declan? Or are you also one of those guys that doesn’t understand the idea of civilty? This site needs someone like Robert and his decency and intelligence.

yeah, he’s that kinda guy, who can use his superior linguistic skills to convince you to go to hell, and you won’t be offended. I say, that’s a srs skill! But really. Even if he has a slight i’m better than thou attitude, he speaks rather sensible things, not like the very intellectual majority of this site who can only talk about breeding and bare-backing and about humiliating others…
the other guy Declan.. he’s not that linguistically skilled as his European fellow, but he is kinda cool, like a good shepherd dog who follows its owner… nice.
Trashing them, badmouthing them just because they are opposed to unsafe animalistic sexual practices… yeah, pls keep trashing them… they are so bad… they’re the very devil… what a bad way to live your gay life..and what a bad thing to do (i.e. promoting safe sex, human morals and pride) on a site which is about porn. Because if someone likes porn he must love raw, unprotected sex and humiliating others, am i right? and if someone is here, watching this site that person must be a coal guy, who can say such things like incest is friggin’ cool, and humiliating others is what porn must be about. And they can say that these pathetic porn actors are just soulless sexmachines created for satisfying our pleasures, yeah?
That’s true that they (Robert and Declan, but especially Robert) tend to engage in pointless arguments… why pointless? Let me use an example. How can you convince a stupid about that he’s a stupid? the stupid won’t understand why he’s an idiot. that’s why it is pointless… because these arguments here about using condoms and etc are kinda like that example i said… So i have to agree with Rick: “sometimes it’s better to remain silent.” it a good advice that everyone (even rob and declan) should take… (including me, of course) ^^;

Thank you! I was beginning to think that Declan and I [and of course Patrick] had somehow entered a parallel universe where indecency, stupidity, disrespect and crudeness are the norm. Luckily that doe NOT appear to be the case. 🙂

I’ll assume your description of my “superior linguistic” skills is intended as a compliment, although I would never try to convince anybody to go to Hell! I can’t imagine that being a very comfortable place to visit no matter how “deserving” the person might be of such a sojourn. 🙂
I must take umbrage with you referring to my friend Declan as a “good shepherd dog following his owner” for nothing could be further from the truth! I often enough only enter the discussion after something he’s stated [check the beginning of this contentious “discussion”] and though we do appear to think along the same lines the arguments are usually different. Similarities will naturally occur due to the common ground we share.

Of course I read that trash Rick. But that does not excuse some part of the argument. My point is that Declan and Robert have made some points too that are a bit uncomfortable, and that bother me because they coming from guys who are obviously not morons, so they carry more weight, as opposed to other cretins here.
