Because for 30 years now AIDS has devastated the gay community. After the initial denial stage they start to use porn as an instructional tool. Plus testing took 6 months to detect.
Bareback is still taboo now because it’s been ingrained that porn has to be educational. Also, it’s hard for some to wrap one’s head around the idea of sex without not being infectious. I also guess that people assume models are being coerced by greedy porn producers to do it.
But the fact is with the new testing it no longer takes 6 months incubation to catch and sex between two negatives people gay or straight is safe. And the models are all adults who I assume are well aware of the risk involved.

It just depends. If you’re in a committed relationship, it’s just a sign of a deeper trust that you are willing to trust each other to only have sex with each other. There’s always a risk to it and there are horror stories of cheating boyfriends spreading STDs to their partner, but there’s just as many couples who can say that they can trust their boyfriend completely to protect them in a monogamous relationship and it works. I’ve had unprotected sex with boyfriends after we had a very serious conversation and I’m still STD/whatever free and that is enough for a lot of people to stay that way. It’s up for the couple to discuss it seriously and understand the risks and make their own decisions, rather than be judged by others.
