Hey guys! Jake Biondi, the author of BOYSTOWN needs no introduction here. As a guest blogger, he introduced us to his book in the article “Jake Biondi on His Book Boystown & Aaron Savvy.” Today he’s back to go in-depth into Aaron Savvy‘s character, Cole O’Brien.
What an honor to be invited back again as a guest blogger on QueerMeNow to discuss my new book, BOYSTOWN, which is currently available in local bookstores as well as online at amazon.com and bn.com! I am very excited and grateful to be back!
As I mentioned in my previous guest blog, BOYSTOWN is the continuing story of several couples living in Chicago’s famed Boystown neighborhood. And fans of Aaron Savvy (“Ajay” from SeanCody.com) immediately recognize his picture on the book’s cover.
Aaron and I have been friends for about four years now — and have worked together in a variety of contexts. He is an outstanding guy — bright, talented, kind — and, of course, great looking. When I began writing BOYSTOWN back in June, I wrote one character in particular with him in mind; however, I didn’t share that fact with him right away. Instead, I finished the book and then shared it with Aaron to get his thoughts. Not only did he like the book, he said he “connected most” with the character of Cole O’Brien — the very character that I had written for him! Great minds think alike, I guess.
Cole O’Brien is one of the book’s most interesting, complicated, and sexy characters. A senior graduating early from the University of Notre Dame, Cole flies to Boston to interview at the headquarters of a company that has offices in Chicago, where Cole ultimately wants to live. While in Boston, Cole hooks up with a very attractive man, slightly older than Cole, named Derek Mancini (another of BOYSTOWN’s core characters).
Derek, an attorney who lives in Chicago, is “happily” married to a Joyelle, a nurse at a Chicago hospital. However, Derek is known to secretly “hook up” with guys while traveling on business trips. It is during his business trip to Boston that he meets and sleeps with Cole, who immediately falls for Derek. Something about Cole sticks with Derek as well. They spend the weekend together in Boston and, when rushing out of the hotel room to catch his flight home to Chicago on the day of his wedding anniversary, Derek leaves his wedding ring behind. Cole finds it and keeps it, hoping to one day be with Derek again. After missing his flight and arriving late for his anniversary dinner with Joyelle, Derek explains away the loss of his wedding and distracts his wife with a romantic anniversary evening.
As luck would have it, Cole gets the job in the company’s Chicago office and moves to Chicago with his best friend Jesse upon graduation. Jesse knows that Cole has fallen for Derek and notices that Cole wears the wedding ring on a chain around his neck. They get an apartment in Boystown and begin their new post-college life. However, a series of events lands Cole in the emergency room of the hospital where Joyelle works. Will she see the ring around Cole’s neck and eventually discover her husband’s secret? And will Cole and Derek end up together as Cole hopes? Keep turning the pages of BOYSTOWN to find out.
Aaron would be a perfect fit for the role of Cole O’Brien. Aaron is a great performer who brings to the character the sexiness and intensity essential to making the character believable. And Aaron himself possesses the same brains, charm, wit, and determination that Cole has. It’s no wonder they are such a match — after all, I wrote the character for Aaron.
Aaron and I continue to work together to promote BOYSTOWN to studios and producers in the hope of having it brought to life on the screen in the very near future. In the meantime, I hope everyone will pick up a copy of the BOYSTOWN book and let me know what they think. The book is available on amazon.com and bn.com.
