They just released the fourth episode a few days ago.

No, I think I’m better off avoiding this series. Thanks QMN for turning me on to this webseries. Charlie David is doing a phenomenal job of the history of porn, gay porn, and some of the performers in the industry of the gay world. Some interesting points were made, and some of the real world lives of the performers were brought out into the light. I’ve never had any problem with the straight, gay, gay for pay deal of the performer, as these men in this type of world, is doing just that.. a service, a fantasy for gays like me. Now the Idea of who they are in real life, how they perform, if there families, friends know, is what I’ve always wondered about. As you see, whatever they choose in the life of this world, they are going to be still trashed as if they were gay anyway as they do porn films. I’m not feeling sorry for these guys. They could work at McDonalds or do an office job but they choose to do gay porn. Its their choice. If they can’t perform in front of the camera their porn career will usually not be long lived. For me as a porn consumer one of the things that matters is whether a guy can perform convincingly in front of the camera. Based on the clips here above I say it is a very predictable documentary. So far I haven’t heard the models speak about wages, STI’s and problems with studios. I know models who are still active in the business are not very likely to speak about these things but it would make the documentary a lot more interesting. Could be that in coming episodes the models will about paychecks etc. but I doubt they will.

Colby Jansen is by far one of the most interesting porn stars out there – whether you find him attractive or not (I read everything from “Thank God – finally a real man” to “Fugly and needs to stop raiding the cookie jar), his personality and life choices make him undeniably charismatic and sexy, as does his attitude which is essentially “This is who I am; take it or shove it!”. I know there are plenty of guys (most of my friends) who are 100% straight, but I don’t think there are many (any?) of that type in gay porn. There is a lot of gray area between 100% straight and 100% gay. I consider myself bi, but I have no interest in seeing men kiss. While the history lessons in the videos were nice, the editors really did not devote much time to the idea that the gay segment of the multi-billion dollar porn business is rather small. The straight porn related aspects of the business bring in the most money – the gay porn section is a much smaller section. Second the editors really glossed over the idea that gay porn generally tends to consist of all white-male casts and imagery with Blacks, Asians and other minorities are almost practically un-seen. They do not even bother consider why this is so. And that goes to the selection of gay porn men to interview. The videos get plus points for the discussion of the AID crisis as it relates to the gay porn world, the debates about condoms, and rise of the Internet as a distributor of porn. It was refreshing to hear the editors plainly state that there is a rising push for bare-back porn in the middle of ever increasing numbers of gay men infected with AIDS. While there are newer drugs to help many deal with AIDS, the crisis has not gone away. The interviews with Colby Jansen were insightful. While I did not know much about Johnny Rapid before these videos – I do not want to know anything more about him ever again. I hope that there are more interviews with porn stars both the currently working, and those that are retired, as well as more diversity among the men interviewed. One other issue that should also be examined is the role of gay porn within the whole gay community, and how gay porn also shapes the gay community for better or worse. Just my thoughts.
