SAD NEWS: About an hour ago, this shocking message appeared on Erik Rhodes‘ Twitter:
Erik Rhodes has left us this morning at 5.30am his family and boyfriend Riccardo are in deep pain, please respect this sad moment
His fans were shocking. Then about half an hour later, Adam Q. Robinson, the VP of Production for Falcon Studios and Raging Stallion Studios confirmed this sad news:
It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Erik Rhodes this morning. Erik died of a heart attack in his sleep.
Erik has been an amazing friend & part of the Falcon family for 8 years, a man of steel on the outside but all teddy bear on the inside.
RIP Erik Rhodes…. You will be missed…

The fact that a man so beautiful on the outside could publically share the kind of torture he underwent on the inside knowing what kind of damage it would do to his image I think speaks volumes about him as a person. He could’ve kept it all hidden and private. He could’ve used his looks to make himself seem perfect. Instead he spoke honestly of himself and admitted the reason he worked so hard to look so good was because of how insecure and inferior he felt. That is the kind of brutal honesty we should respect and remember. People are going to use this as an opportunity to bash him and give their I-told-you-sos. Those of us who recognize how rare he was, tortured but rare, know this is a sad day and can only hope he’s found peace. The people he’s left behind are the ones who are going to have to deal with the pain and no one’s opinions about Erik either way will matter to that pain. He was loved and he went out of his way to share himself honestly beyond the images of his body and his sexuality. Say whatever you want about the man but his insides matched his outsides: stunning, sexy, a little unreal, hard and soft all at the same time. This is a sad day.

One of my favorite moments of Erik is when he was on kathy griffin’s my life on the d-list where kathy was hosting the gayvn awards and he took off his shirt and was posing that amazing body. That was a special moment.

Very sad news. That being said, he came across as a very extreme character. I remember seeing a video of him with his eyes all drooping after taking drugs and what not. He came across as someone who didn’t understand the term “moderation.” Not trying to be heartless. Just speaking the truth.

A sad end to a life filled with turbulance. Whilst Erik was bold enough to share his ongoing struggles with depression and drug usage, there was hope in the minds of many that he would somehow find a way to overcome it.
Sometimes, that just isn’t the case.

I got to meet Erik when he was just starting out. We shared an elevator at IML in Chicago and i ran into him later in the evening in the hotel lobby. He started talking because he recognized me and I got to spend the better part of the whole IML/Leather Market/Grabby weekend getting to know him. Never did the conversation turn to porn or sex and when people would come up to him for a photo he’d just look at me and wink. He was great at ‘being’ Erik Rhodes. We kept in touch via email and chat now and then over the years and I feel very fortunate to have gotten to know the man behind the image and the screen.

I’m not shocked at all, when he was doing steroids plus crystal meth, mix those two together and sooner or later death becomes you. Steroids won’t keep you beautiful for life, it will destroy your looks, body and life. He obviously over did the steroids and continued doing meth. So to hear about his death doesn’t surprise me. We are all so hooked on a big muscular body model, hopefully this news will be a wake up call to others.
