This week, everyone in gay blogsphere is talking about a documentary by Joe Manganiello about male strippers called “La Bare.” But I would like to showcase another interesting documentary. This one is about gay porn.
I first covered Straight Guys, a documentary about straight performers in gay pornography last year, back in July. “Gay For Pay” is definitely one of the most controversial and most talked about subjects in gay porn. Everyone has their own opinions about it. That’s why I really want to watch this documentary.
“Straight Guys” premieres at the Doc Now Festival in Toronto on June 4, 2014 and you can watch the trailer below.
Filmmaker Daniel Laurin interviews porn star Conner Habib, Bravo Delta and went on set of CHAOSMEN.COM.
“Straight-Guy Porn” is a wildly popular subgenre of online amateur pornography that features supposedly heterosexual men having sex with other men for a gay male audience. Why do some gay men prefer to watch sex between two heterosexual men? Where does this desire come from? Is it innate or is it learned? And why would men who identify as straight choose to perform in gay porn? Straight Guys follows filmmaker Daniel Laurin on his journey to answer these questions and reconcile his own relationship to this type of pornography. Daniel speaks to porn historians, porn theorists, porn producers and the performers themselves.
Straight Guys is a lighthearted look at a very real and pressing set of questions. As children and teenagers get more and more of their information from the Internet, pornography has become an increasingly prevalent source of sexual education. It is an even more influential resource for gay/bisexual/questioning teens, who have very few examples of gay sexuality in mainstream media. This film uses Straight-Guy Porn as an entry point into deeper questions about gay desire in a very straight world.

Gaaroto says
Is Conner Habib straight? oO
Anyway, I’m curious about this documentary. I´d like to hear a straight guy telling what it feels like for him to have a dick up his ass.
QMN says
@Gaaroto Ha Ha Ha NO, Conner Habib is gay. 🙂
SexFlexible.com says
This sounded interesting…at first. But then the more you read about it, the more it seems like this director used the opportunity to feed his own “straight” fetish/desire. He’s obviously someone who is VERY fond of gay4pay/”straight” men in gay porn and buys into the idea that heterosexual men who do actually choose to have sex with other men would still by considered by the overwhelming majority of people to be heterosexual. (Here’s a tip: they WOULDN’T!)
This would’ve been a much more interesting documentary if he actually dissected this phenomenon rather than starting off by already claiming and reinforcing that these guys truly are “straight.” Ummmm yeah…ok…sure.
This has been done before and isn’t anything new or groundbreaking.
Dean says
SexFlexible is the only one with the fetish here. It is sad that there are some people so desperate to believe that all porn actors are into what they’re doing. I guess you believe all the women in straight porn are bi too and love having sex with other women.
Vabballfan says
Straight, my ass. These guys that get fucked and cum while getting fucked are not straight. If they say they are they are fooling themselves.
SexFlexible.com says
Dean – I’m sorry, do you hear women who do lesbian scenes running around talking about how “straight” they are all the time? No. You don’t. It’s not a matter of whether or not they are into what they are doing or if they are doing it for money. The fact of the matter is that by definition of the word “straight,” straight men don’t willingly choose to have sex with other men for ANY reason. That’s what makes straight men straight. You can call a “tree” a “rock” all you want but the tree is still a tree.
Nikko says
Um, er, BISEXUAL maybe? Hello anyone??!
Almatolmen says
Screw all that! I want to know who they are. Gay/straight/bi/Martian hermaphodite, they’re hot and I wouldn’t refuse sex with any of them or deny them a chance at my perfection . 😉
ceeemme says
Dean is a homophobe with straight fetish
cutlass says
“It is sad that there are some people so desperate to believe that all porn actors are into what they’re doing.”
Chew on what this idiot said for awhile, then tell me what’s more sad?
Orestes says
This gay for pay is fake..No ” straight ” man will do gay porn…NOT AT LEAST FOR A BIG AMOUNT.
There are gays who like the idea of stirght men forced to have gay sexy, like a revenge for all their shit against us…Then there are gay men without selestime as homosexuals who need to see “real” machos in action…
And then gay men who prefer to say I´m not gay, do it for the money..Or I´m bisexual, or straight curious…You know what it means.
Chase says
No real straight man will have sex with another guy for money. I mean come on, get real with that shit. They may go around lying to themselves calling it gay4pay, but to the world you are just considered gay after you sucked a dick and took it up the ass.
Super Billy B. says
The truth is that none of them is straight, they are all bisexual.
Dean says
All of you silly queens who wish they were into guys are funny.
ManHoleMuncher says
I have studied homosexual behavior and sexual psychology for many years. I hate to break the chain of thought on this, but straight guys have gay sex with other guys, straight or gay, are NOT straight. Perhaps they enjoy a certain of level of psychological comfort living this lie, but they are not what they hold themselves out to be. Bi perhaps, but surely not straight. This myth is a bit too much to embrace.
micke says
terrible trailer. what has the music got to do with the documentary? would have been better to hear a couple quotes from the guys. conner is very articulate. an insight from him would have serviced the doc in a better way.
Super Marco Manuel says
Dean and sxg seems to be the only ones who really believes in gay for pay 100%.They believes it hard as steel. They clearly have a straight men fetish.Even if they doesnt admit it.They do.
You should know about the Kinsey scale by now.I been very clear about it.
I dont believe that any men in gay porn is straight.Unless its men who only makes jerk off videos.
Jerk off videos MuscleHunks = straight men
Falcon,Hot House,MEN,Randy Blue,Cocky Boys,Lucas Entertenment,ect… = mostly bi men but with some gay men
Lucio Saints used to describe himself as bi on his rentboy profile. Not anymore. Before claiming to be bi,Lucio claimed to be gay. Now,Lucio Saints claims to be gay.Which i know he is.
Lucio Saints is gay.Not bi.Gay porn stars always lies about their sexual orientation, height, cock size, age, ect…
Gay men used to be a majority in gay porn from the 70s and early 80s.Even 90s gay porn had lots of gay men.Gay porn changed a lot in the 2000s.
Gay men are a minority in gay porn from today. But,theres Kinsey 6 gay men in gay porn.Like most men at Titan and Raging Stallion are gay.
Super Marco Manuel says
You all know what i think about gay for pay.
Gay porn should only have gay men having sex with gay men.
This is GAY porn.
For some reasons, gay porn producers seems to think that gay men prefers straight men over gay men.
Will gay men in gay porn ever be a majority again?
Its unlikely. But possible. Its up to gay men stopping praising straight men and stop buying gay for pay porn.
Stop buying gay for pay porn. Then gay for pay will eventually be outdated and will dissapear.
Learn to love yourselves. You know what real straight men thinks about you.Dont feed those who spits on you.Have some pride.
Stop buying gay for pay porn is the only way.If you dont do that, you will always be stuck with gay for pay men who makes gay porn unwatchable.
Let gay porn be gay again.
Bob says
sexflexible.com and others who think that straight guys cannot do gay porn…. GET A CLUE.
Human beings have been doing things that they don’t like for aaaaages… for other rewards.
Gay guys have been getting married and begetting kids (AND STILL ARE TO THIS DAY) because it was too risky to be gay.
Yes, morals have atrophied in today’s day and age. People are willing to do something that they abhor for MONEY and not for fear of their life as gay people were doing in the 50s, 60s etc.
Really, Is it that difficult to comprehend????
Is one’s imagination soooo limited that they cannot conceive of guys doing things that they don’t like to get other rewards??????
andrew says
Not everybody fits into the categories: 100% Gay, 100% Straight, 50/50% Bi. Sexuality and sexual response is sometimes more complicated than that. Does anyone really know the sexual thoughts, leanings, desires, fantasies that are in another persons’s head?
Dean says
For the queens, I do NOT have a straight man fetish. I do not even watch porn of men who identify as straight. And I certainly don’t watch porn from Sean Cody, Corbin Fisher, Chaos Men, and drool over the guys there like all you aunties do. Just look at the blog posts of those studios and see the number of comments of all of you queening out over them.
Dean says
It seems Bob is the only one here besides me who can see reason. Thank you for explaining how I feel.
SexFlexible.com says
Again, a man’s reason for having sex with another man has nothing to do with it. A straight man doesn’t willingly choose to have sex with other men for any reason, by definition of the word “straight” alone.
Words have meaning and those meanings are generally socially agreed upon. That’s how language works. If you ask 99.99% of people if a man who chooses to have sex with another man for any reason is “straight” guess what they are going to tell you: NO.
Go ahead and ask as many people as you can find. There’s a reason that the people who argue these men are “straight” are in the overwhelming minority. Because the rest of us are aware of the socially agreed upon definition of the word “straight” and we don’t alter it to cater to our own views or desires or needs. It really is that simple. We have straight friends, straight family members, straight coworkers and we know what “straight” means.
It’s not because we don’t want these guys to be straight or we claim they aren’t because that way it fits our fantasy in some sick way. We say that they aren’t straight for the same reason we would point at an apple and say that it isn’t an orange. When language changes to the point that the majority of people believe “straight” includes men who willingly choose to have sex with other men then you can come back and tell us how wrong we are. Until then it’s just going to be a few of you guys and the studios/actors themselves who keep pushing this claim.
What is really important here is WHY these guys want to claim they are straight so desperately. It’s because they want the social rewards of heterosexuality. There is a hierarchy of sexual preferences and heterosexuality is undeniably at the top. It’s no wonder then that these guys want to badly to label themselves as straight. Because of guys like Bob and Dean that these guys get away with it. Keep blowing smoke up their asses. It’s fun to watch.
And pathetic.
Nikko says
G4P say they do it for the money. I mostly don’t believe it because both money and Viagra don’t explain the passion and sexual chemistry these guys have with each other. Or maybe it does?! I really don’t know anymore.
Tomo says
Can’t wait to see this, I just want to hear it from a 100% real straight guy what it’s like to take another straight guys cock up his ass, suck on another mans cock, kiss him deeply and intimately and then let him cum all over him, obviously he’s 100% straight! but never Bi or even worse Gay. My ass!!!!!!
Steve B says
A way more interesting documentary would be one that examined gay men working in straight porn. Now that I would watch. A gay man actually did work in the straight porn business in the 1970’s but was exclusively gay in his private life.
I watch mostly straight porn because the gay porn business has been taken over by straight porn companies and often have women at the head of the productions. I think that explains why gay men are now a minority in their own porn genre.
If I do watch gay porn I prefer the rougher and tougher stuff at Butch Dixon, Tim Tales, TIM, Pantheon and Raging Stallion.
In viewing a ton of straight porn I get strong vibes from several of the male performers. There’s a level of detachment to their work and a tendency toward exhibitionism and playing to the camera that most other guys in straight porn don’t do.
Truthfully, porn is a manipulative enterprise. The viewer never sees the truth of the scenes. How into or not into scene partners performers are and how long it took to make a 30-minute scene. And,honestly, a hole is a hole. As long as a guy finds a way to mentally frame his actions he can probably do either type of porn.
Sex feels good. What goes on in a guy’s head is a mystery and that is likely the keys to the porn kingdom. I’ve experienced straight sex and enjoyed it a lot but it was just sex and nothing more. If I had the right physique for adult films, as a gay man, I would only want to work in straight porn.
For one thing there is more work. Paid less per scene but can film scenes year-round and make more money in the aggregate. Also, I wouldn’t want to mess up my real sex life with men. I’ve read accounts of many straight porn dudes and they all talk about how it messed with their private sex lives with women. That’s understandable. You work with pussy and tits 10 hours a day for 40 weeks or more a year and it must take something to spice up life at home.
Doing gay porn, for me, would ruin the sex I love and need the most, that with men. Working in straight porn I would go in and do the job and collect my pay and go home to a nice hairy and musky man and do what really turns me on. I had enough experience with women earlier in life that mental imagery from the past and the muscle memory of straight sex would be all I’d need to do the work.
Wouldn’t do bi porn though. That genre makes no sense to me. All it does is expose who the straight dudes are in gay porn and it also reveals that the guy who is suddenly doing straight for pay is anything but straight. It’s hard to hide sexual energy and heat in porn. Beautiful Blake Harper did a bi porn and it was terrible. Some porn journalist, who must’ve worked for the production company that did the film, asked Blake if he was now straight and would move on to do straight porn. Considering he couldn’t keep an erection in his females-only scene I think that question answered itself. Also, I think people who make gay porn use that kind of thing to market gay porn stars to gay men by insinuating that sexual preference is simply a daily choice. It’s cynical but it has worked. The bi porn films that are made are predominately bought by gay men. I know if I did a bi porn it would be readily apparent I was into the beef way more than the tuna!!
