The last time I saw this incredible guy Theo Ford was during the filming of NakedSword’s Paris Perfect in France, back in September. You can read my recent interview with Theo Ford below, we talk about various topics from filming Paris Perfect, being an escort, his opinion on PrEP, and more.
Please introduce yourself, how old are you, where are you from?
This question always gets me… I find it so hard to describe myself. I guess one could say I’m an Irish boy who’s never stopped venturing into the world and grabbing opportunities.
I was actually born in the south of France 30 years ago and never stopped moving and travelling across the world. My home town is Waterford (hence FORD) in the south east of Ireland. I had such a great childhood being raised in a private Quaker school. Having a culturally mixed background (Irish, French, Moroccan) allowed me to have a deep appreciation of diversity. I never truly feel like I belong anywhere; this can both be a blessing and a curse. I live in London at the moment. I love this city for the phenomenal cultural and intellectual energy and the celebration of diversity.
What did you do during your year-long hiatus away from porn?
This long break was not planned at all. Before this hiatus I was working non stop at such a crazy level. Spending more time on flights than at home. I had no “routine”. Meeting my ex husband gave me the stability I was craving. It was during the Christmas of 2015 that I decided to moveI to Sydney, mostly to please him. From that moment on things when from bad to worse. It took me a year and a half to gather the courage to pick myself up again and look towards the future. During my stay in Sydney I was able to write a lot and publish my pieces. I wrote many introspective short stories based on the fluctuations of my emotional state through life events.
Could you please tell us more about depression?
Shortly after arriving in Sydney I separated from my husband. That left me alone on the other side of the world. A deep depression took over my life to the point of loosing 40lbs and becoming anaemic. I simply could not overcome the pain and sadness of loosing the person I loved the most and who loved me back! I was in mourning for things I had lost but also for things that had not yet happened and never would. Thankfully I had an incredible therapist in Sydney who truly helped me excavate my feelings. Once the therapy ended I decided to come back to London. Partially thinking I was all better I did not look for more therapy. I found out that this was a mistake. I ended up in hospital one day after wanting to fall asleep to not wake up. I simply felt as if I had reached the end of my story. Like there was nothing more of value to experience. By that point the depression had had a warping effect on my perception of life. It was not logical, it made no sense and life had become torture. This desperate attempt was in some way a relief. Once the doctors revived me and allowed me to go back home I felt as if a weight had been lifted off of my shoulders. From this moment on I permitted myself to be flawed, to be less than perfect, to be unwell. Things that were not possible in my past frame of mind.
What do you think about the current stage of the adult industry where most studios produce bareback contents now.
The industry is changing at the speed of light. With so many means of creating and releasing content nowadays it has become so easy. Of course the quality is not always a priority I found. I feel that historical studios are becoming even more creative and ingenious. Adapting and releasing amazing content. My last major production was for NakedSword directed by the insanely insane Mr Pam. Being on set with us you could feel the energy and devotion put into such work. Something that is lacking when you see “home made videos” on those new personal platforms. Nowadays everyone calls themselves a PORN STAR. This makes me laugh of course!!
With a wider access to prep and easy testing bareback is a safer option to what it was a few years ago. To me the main issue is that studios like Lucas Ent, Kristen Bjorn etc simply do not give a FUCK about the models’ health. I find this simply heinous. To me that is abuse and deep lack of professionalism. Through my career I have always promoted education when it comes to sexual health. Fighting stigma (like Kayden Gray), promoting prep (like Jason Domino) and simply getting regular testing.
What’s your opinion regarding PrEP?
Prep is an amazing tool in the wide range of prevention. In London the rate of new HIV infections have dropped for the first time ever thanks to PREP and the amazing work done by the NHS and 56 DEAN STREET. The results speak for themselves. Of course medication may not be for everyone but you now have the option and a great one at that. With or without PREP you should inform yourself and get tested on a regular basis. Other forms of STI exist so make sure you are as healthy as possible no matter the practises and pleasures you partake in. People like Jason Domino (@TheJasonDomino with his movie porn4prep.com/movie) do amazing work merging porn and PREP awareness. At the end of the day you should make the best decision for yourself through knowledge of the facts.
Please tell us more about working as an escort.
Escorting is still extremely stigmatised. Being a sex worker can be difficult to talk about through society’s vision of the job and misconceptions. I personally have no issue talking about it and I often joke about work too. It definitely is NOT an easy career path. On one hand dealing with people is tough and on the other hand you get regular negativity from people due to the line of work. The general misconception is that escorts are prostitutes/hookers. That is of course wrong. Yes there may be a sexual element to the job especially if you are a porn actor. Being a great escort means being able to engage and create a relaxing and safe environment. Like every job it has it’s good and bad sides. You must be on top of your mental, physical, sexual, emotional game every time you meet a client. You must have empathy to figure out how the person feels and what they might need and want. It can be an extremely taxing job so finding moments of solace and redeeming elements through every booking is essential. My number one goal is to finish every booking feeling happy and good about myself, just like on a porn set.
Do you have suggestions for future clients?
Simply acknowledge that even sex workers are human beings. Do not expect them to be machines. And also have respect for their time. To me it’s a 2-way street where both parties must respect each other. I have met so many amazing people through escorting.
What do you think about OnlyFans?
I’m happy people feel empowered to create their own content. I always admire anyone who shows entrepreneurial skills. That being said I found a lot of the content to be of poor quality. Many of the performers on OnlyFans are incredibly sexy and attractive so it does sadden me to see them in a less than flattering light.
Even if this kind of platform does not last forever it has given an electroshock within the industry and I am excited to see the future of porn as I know it will always thrive whichever form it takes.
What role do you think porn performers could have in the LGBTQ community other than entertainment?
As porn actors we work within the sex industry. I am surprised that so few performers, producers or studios talk about health, prevention or education. For example, December 1st is World Aids Day and a minute number of professionals within the porn industry acknowledge it. I rarely hear or read actors fighting for equality, or studios promoting education regarding sexual health. Millions of people watch, read, follow, love the industry and its workers. Being a performer is amazing as we receive so much love but I truly believe we should reciprocate with wisdom, education and awareness.
What’s your experience working within the adult industry so far?
You mean experienceS. There has been so many life changing elements. Putting yourself out there in such a way truly teaches you about yourself. It has allowed my sexuality to blossom and to become empowered. To adapt to so many ways of working depending on the crew, country and costars. I have met some of my favourite people ever within the industry such as Gabriel Cross, Johnny V, Mickey Taylor and Mr Pam. Porn started out as a simple personal fantasy and became a whirlwind adventure that I never would have imagined. It’s tought me to be upfront and happy with who I am and what I do. You also develop a thicker skin being such a public and recognisable person. Thankfully every fan I have met all over the world have been kind and loving, for which I am eternally grateful.
How was it like shooting a porn movie in Paris with mr. Pam and NakedSword?
It was INSANE. INCREDIBLE. INTENSE. MAGICAL!
I’ve never had such energy put into a single movie from each and everyone involved. I am deeply thankful to have been part of this adventure.
The cast an crew were essential to this amazing experience. There’s not one person I could have done it without!!
Gabriel Cross was my sense of security and love.
Johnny V is hilarious on top of being a gorgeous person in and out.
mr. Pam was patient and caring.
Leo Forte was so inspiring.
Colton Grey had the energy of a thousand men.
Francois Sagat is iconic and so talented I’m in absolute admiration of him.
Dani Robles has such sex appeal I could marry him.
Dennis Vega is magnetising .
Sister Roma has such wisdom I respect her so much.
Tim Valenti has been a source of serenity ever since.
Any funny stories that happened during porn shoot?
I always laugh a lot and joke non stop on set. Sometimes to the dismay of my producers hahaha. I was filming in Vegas with my dear friend Andrea Suarez and we could not stop laughing and goofing around. Same thing happened with the ever so sexy ginger Johnny V on the Paris Perfect set. Especially during the orgy scene. The both of us were out of breath laughing as much as we did. I am so blessed to always be working with friends so the job becomes pleasure. The only time something funny/weird happened was on a shoot where I had a nose bleed during the first oral position; which I laughed about but had to take a break!!
Do you have any suggestions for new porn performers?
Stay true to yourself. ONLY do what feels right for you. Never EVER believe promises or pretty words from producers such as Michael Lucas telling you you’ll become a huge star etc. I would stay away from exclusive contracts unless a studio goes out of their way to accommodate you specifically. Freedom is golden!
The number 1 advice will always be “do what you love regardless of financial compensations”.
Where can your fans follow you on social media?
